Jonathan hovers around our table. We are the last people in the restaurant, and as much as he probably wants us to leave, he’s too polite to say it. Besides, I suspect Fernando would chop his head off if he did.

“I’m stuffed,” I say, turning back to Charlotte. “Do you want anything else?”

“No, I don’t think I could manage another bite. Besides, I still need to drive back home.”

I swallow hard, contemplating what I’m about to say next. I’m used to winning my fights, but when it comes to Charlotte – well, she has knocked out my heart strings and holds them captive in her pretty little hands. Since Charlotte stepped into my gym, I have wanted nothing more than to make her feel safe. I found a new reason to live, not wanting want my urging hormones to stand in the way. But, this is one fight I cannot win.

“Stay at my place tonight. I don’t want you driving this late at night.”

Her eyes widen, and she brushes the few loose strands of hair behind her ear. “Um... I don’t, I mean, I would hate to impose.”

I grab hold of her hands and stare straight into her eyes. “Charlotte, I insist.”
